Vishnubua Brahmachari was a great scholar, vedantin and orator. Charmed by his excellence, the Rajah of Akkalkot once invited him to his court. Vishnubua came to Akkalkot and one day he put a very recondite question in Vedanta to the Swami, "What is Brahmatadaakaara vritti (oneness with Brahman)? The Swami smiled and kept quiet. The Brahmachari felt that it is not proper to call the old man who could not answer his question "a swami" or "a master." Besides, he went on proclaiming to his friends outside that the Swami could not answer his questions. But the Swami did not mind it.

 

One day the Brahmachari dreamt that thousands of scorpions were moving towards him and one of them had even stung him.

श्री स्वामी समर्थ प्रसन्न

Once in Mangalvedha (near Solapur), where Shree Swami stayed for a very long time (but, did not reveal Himself fully to the gaze of devotees), there lived Basappa Teli (who used to trade in oil).  He was an authentic and fully committed devotee of Swami.  Wherever Swami used to roam, Basappa used to follow Him and serve Him as possible.  Swami often scolded Basappa thus, "Why are you following this renunciate?  Your wife and children are in the village and hungry and waiting for you to provide them a decent living.  And here you are following me in the jungles!"

Mr. Kanhere Guruji met Shree Shankar Maharaj in Shree Swami Samarth Math at Sadashiv Peth. Mr. Kanhere was busy in singing hymns in the Math. At that time Maharaj came and started beating the kettle drum and started disturbing Mr. Kanhere. He got angry on Maharaj and felt Him a mad person. So he walked away from the Math. But Maharaj followed him and started pushing him. On this Mr. Kanhere got angry and started beating Maharaj.
